Therapeutic art, aka art as therapy, is the process of using artistic creation as a self-directed therapeutic practice. It’s not about the product, it’s not about creating something beautiful, it’s solely about indulging in the process of creating something in the present moment. Unlike art therapy, therapeutic art is not processed with a psychotherapist, rather, focuses on exploring the act of creation itself, while noticing and observing what may or may not arise, with the guidance of a therapeutic arts practitioner.
